Community Volunteerism and Participation
Six years ago my wife and I moved to Murrieta in hopes to find a community to raise our family and live happily ever after. We wanted to find our place in the world and know that our kids have a safe place to grow, play and go to school. Little did we know how much Murrieta would give us!
First, we have found the perfect place to raise our children and provide them with a great education. Next, we added to our family by including my wife’s younger brother as a member of our family. Last, we both agree that Murrieta is the community where we want to spend the rest of our lives. Personally, I feel connected to this community because of the support I have received, both personally, professionally and politically.
It is just as important to me to give back to those less fortunate as it is to plan for a better and brighter future for our children. Because of this belief, I am a Board Member and Silent Auction Chairman for the Murrieta Hames Lupus Walk. I was also the 2006 Auction Chairman for the Boys & Girls Club “Our Kids Rock” Dinner and Auction. The “Our Kids Rock” event is the largest in the Temecula Valley and raises more money than any other Boys & Girls Club event in the country. I also serve as a commissioner for the First 5 Children & Families Commission of Riverside County. In addition to donating my time to the aforementioned organizations, I also donate time, money and/or resources to the YMCA, S.A.F.E., Temecula Theater Foundation, Murrieta Library, Blood Bank of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties, Mentoring Today for Tomorrow, Inc., Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Race for the Cure and Murrieta’s Every 15 Minutes Program.
Finally, I believe that teaching my children the importance of giving back will not only make them better people, but will teach them that paying it forward can make a difference in others’ lives. As a family, we attend Calvary Chapel in Murrieta where I usher on Sunday mornings. We also visit local senior living communities to spend time with the elderly and assist with food drives for local pantries. One of the most rewarding things we do as a family is travel to Mexico with our church and help refurbish an orphanage. We continue to collect clothes and household items to send to the orphanage. At Christmas time, we put together and send gift boxes to the orphanage as well as to children with parents in prison. After Hurricane Katrina, we provided household items and clothing for people affected by the hurricane that relocated to the Riverside area.
